OUR CRAFTSMANSHIP

Common Questions

La Vieille Prune de Souillac is a plum eau-de-vie created by Maison Louis Roque in Souillac, in the Lot region of France. It is the original expression - the one that defined the style and set the benchmark for the category in France.

La Vieille Prune is crafted from a blend of distillates made from different plum varieties: Mirabelle, Quetsche and Prune Royale. This recipe was created by Louis Roque in 1920 and has remained unchanged ever since.

The term was born here at Maison Louis Roque. It refers to a plum eau-de-vie that has been aged for an extended period in oak casks - a method practised since the very beginning and one that has come to define the identity of the entire category.

All our cuvées are crafted from the same century-old recipe. What sets them apart is their ageing time in oak casks: from a few years to several decades, each maturation period reveals its own nuances, character and aromatic expression.

La Vieille Prune de Souillac stands apart through its signature blend and extended ageing in century-old oak casks. Unlike a clear plum brandy, it is an amber-coloured eau-de-vie shaped by time, offering remarkable depth and a rare aromatic complexity.

La Vieille Prune reveals notes of ripe plum and candied fruit, enhanced by hints of vanilla, honey and toasted oak. The longer the ageing, the greater the richness, depth and complexity of the cuvée.

Our
Heritage

Created in 1920, Vieille Prune de Souillac was born from Louis Roque's vision: travelling to Alsace and Lorraine in search of other plum varieties - Mirabelle and Quetsche - and blending them with the plums of the Lot region before ageing the spirit in small oak casks. From this encounter emerged a bold and highly innovative blend, unlike anything seen at the time.
